Description

The 1960s marked a period of remarkable innovation for Seiko, from both a technical standpoint and with regard to the creativity of its design. The King Seiko collection was born in 1961 as a testament to the company’s ability to craft highly accurate mechanical watches with powerful yet refined designs. In 1972, King Seiko launched the VANAC, a series renowned for its bold, bright colors and innovative, multifaceted designs. After more than 50 years, the VANAC returns to King Seiko with a sporty new aesthetic inspired by the Tokyo horizon.

The VANAC’s purple dial takes its inspiration from the evening twilight over Tokyo, the city of its birth. It has a horizontal stripe pattern and indexes that occupy a dedicated ring embedded in its surface. The 12 o’clock index and the counterweight on the seconds hand display the striking silhouette of the letter “V,” indicating the first letter of the series’ name.

Despite its strong and dynamic profile that makes it look as if it were carved from a block of solid metal, its bezel-less design lends an elegant and thin appearance. The newly developed bracelet combines links with mirror and hairline finishing, ensuring comfort on the wrist and an air of sophistication. The horizontal lines accentuated by the links subtly echo the theme of the Tokyo horizon.

The VANAC is powered by Caliber 8L45, a new Seiko movement that achieves a power reserve of 72 hours thanks to an improved mainspring while delivering an accuracy of +10 to -5 seconds per day. It was meticulously engineered to provide the robustness demanded of movements that power modern-day mechanical sports watches. Through its combination of high performance and functional beauty, which can be observed through the watch’s sapphire crystal case back, Caliber 8L45 represents the pinnacle of the Seiko brand’s mechanical watch movements.
