Description

Tempus Fugit is an ode to the passing of time and an incentive to materialize one's ambitions and dreams. Supported by the Inartis Foundation, this timepiece is the result of an exceptional encounter between the medical, scientific (Dr. Benoît Dubuis, President of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences) and watchmaking worlds (Dominique Renaud, a renowned designer, and Julien Tixier, an independent watchmaker and prototypist). Its creation found its full meaning during the period of confinement, when we were led to ask ourselves existential questions...

Are we not all surprised by the passing of time? And when we realize it, is it not too late to undertake our most intimate projects? Tempus Fugit is here to remind it to us by integrating a unique complication, a power reserve of one's own life, allowing to visualize the life expectancy, not the population one, but the personal one. The mechanism displaying the life reserve is based on personal indications provided to an external algorithm integrating the latest scientific knowledge on risk, particularly in terms of the environment, physiology, and genomics. This remarkable timepiece is the result of the exceptional expertise of watchmakers who have designed and integrated the most compact secular perpetual calendar conceived to date, which gives this timepiece the capacity to take into account corrections every 4, 100 and 400 years and to indicate the years up to 9999. The expertise of the watchmaker is also expressed in the finishing applied to each element in a module that is only 8.3 mm in diameter and 1.85 mm in height, and which includes no less than 51 components.

This multi-millennial calculator, which fits entirely into a suspended mobile, gives a perpetual dimension and houses a chip that holds the watch owner's DNA and an intimate secret that is only revealed when the calculated life expectancy ends, and the watch is rearmed for a new life journey. In this way, life is perpetuated through this unique eternal mechanism. There is no despair in this approach, but rather a call to action and an intimate conviction that the awareness of the passage of time is an encouragement to self-realization, to the affirmation of the meaning of our life and to the call of our commitment to change the world.
