Coexisting with Magnetism
Can a mechanical watch movement coexist with magnets? Impossible, right? ZBIOLAND says yes! Bold innovation and experimentation are in ZBIOLAND’s DNA!
Typically, when a mechanical watch comes close to a magnet, the hairspring can become magnetized, causing it to deviate from its original set trajectory, leading to inaccurate timekeeping or a complete stoppage. Common hairspring materials include Nivarox, Silicon, and Nivachron. The ZBIOLAND Snake’s base movement uses the Sellita SW100, which features a Nivarox hairspring. Many ask: Where is the magnet in the ZBIOLAND Snake, and what does it do?
First, as the world’s first 3D animated automaton watch, the ZBIOLAND Snake has garnered over 200 million views globally. Its standout design is the 3D snake, which connects to 12 gears. These gears are fixed and propelled by magnetic attraction, with 12 magnetic plates beneath them encircling the movement to form a new unified magnetic field.
As is well known, magnetic fields cannot be shielded or isolated. ZBIOLAND boldly experimented with thickness, magnetic direction, and distance adjustments. After more than 20 trials, we successfully stabilized the magnetic interference on the hairspring within the movement’s standard tolerance range.
The ZBIOLAND Snake features an independent power system for the snake, providing about 45 seconds of power output when the bezel is fully wound. The 2 o’clock pusher controls the snake’s movement, while the 5 o’clock crown is used for time-setting and manual winding. Additionally, the impact sounds from the power governor mimic the serpent’s crawling noises, making its winding motion even more vivid.
Above all, it’s about daring to attempt the impossible, bringing more playfulness and interactive experiences with the watch!
