Mystery Box: Forget Time
An Artistic Collaboration Between Fiona Krüger and Denis Flageollet
Inspired by physicist Carlo Rovelli’s exploration of the impermanence of time, Mystery Box : Forget Time is a unique mechanical creation that blends art and horology. Conceived by Fiona Krüger and brought to life with Denis Flageollet, this piece invites a new perception of time through both visual and mechanical experiences. The intricate marquetry box, crafted by Hawthorne Fine Boxes in collaboration with artisan Emeline Dépail, forms a dynamic exterior, where floating mother-of-pearl discs emanate outward, illustrating time and space untethered.
A suspended key draws the viewer in, initiating the journey; once wound, a gentle ticking begins, shrouded in mystery, until the push of a hidden button opens the box, revealing the clock within. When opened, the box extends to a length of 280 mm, framing the mechanical composition inside.
Driven by Krüger’s reflection on the elusive nature of time, and with Flageollet’s mastery in mechanical design, this creation features an innovative clock with floating indices, resonating with Rovelli’s philosophy. This immersive work of art is not just a horological piece, but a poetic reflection on the essence of time, merging art, mechanics, and philosophy.
