Description

The C1 Celestial Moonphase is a collaboration between two leading voices in British watchmaking: the technically driven Christopher Ward and the imaginative Mr Jones Watches. Limited to just 300 pieces, and sold out within 48 hours of launch, it blends mechanical precision with illustrative design to create a moonphase like no other.

At the heart of the Celestial is Calibre JJ04: Christopher Ward’s proprietary moonphasemodule, developed by former head watchmaker Johannes Jahnke. Built upon the SellitaSW220-1, the movement incorporates 18 additional components to deliver smooth, continuous lunar motion with astronomical accuracy. If kept wound, it will follow the phases of the moon for 128 years without correction.

While its mechanics are rooted in horological tradition, the dial is anything but conventional. Using the open series model as her canvas, Bea Watts of Mr Jones Watches created the Celestial Moonphase’s vibrant, layered skyscape, drawing inspiration from the fleeting moment between day and night. Hovering between stylised clouds, printed both on the dial and inside the crystal, two swallows circle the sky: one indicating the minutes, the other, more centrally positioned, the hours.

The moon itself is positioned within the dial’s clouds, glowing softly in darkness thanks to its Globolight XP© composition. The dial and crystal printing took place at Mr Jones Watches’ London workshop, with final assembly completed at Christopher Ward’s Atelier in Biel.

The case, crafted in steel, is drawn from the C1 collection and offers a refined 40.5mm silhouette. A printed caseback, also illustrated by Watts, completes the narrative and offers a moment of quiet charm.

For both brands, the Celestial is a statement of what British watchmaking can be: creative, precise, and bold. At once playful and poetic, the C1 Celestial Moonphase is a unique expression of mechanical art – and a celebration of partnership across disciplines.
