The fascination of the 999 pieces limited edition Pontos Décentrique GMT lies in the innovative off-centre arrangement of its functions. These were developed internally at Maurice Lacroix and a patent for the connecting module between the basic movement and the completely new type of date indication is pending. The innovative mechanism corresponds to the high-tech materials used: both the case and the dial are crafted in high-quality titanium and an unprecedented surface finishing treatment gives the movement its noble black shine.

The new limited Pontos Décentrique GMT by Maurice Lacroix represents a unique link between the traditional Swiss art of watchmaking with modern design and high-tech materials. A creative process gave birth to a watch which cannot be compared with any of its known predecessors! The outstanding design is immediately fascinating. As its name suggests, all the functions of the Pontos Décentrique GMT are arranged off-centre. Even the hours, minutes and seconds are not indicated from the centre in the usual way, but in a discreetly designed circle segment with wider index marks for the hours and narrower for the minutes. This segment is slightly shifted towards 10 o'clock and tapers towards 6 o'clock. The likewise round day and night indication for a second time zone is surprising. It is generously situated between the centre of the dial, 2 and 5 o'clock. So that it is always clear whether day or night hours are indicated, the sun and moon turn around on the same disk. A special idea is the play with polished and unpolished parts of the sapphire crystal over the indication. These parts accentuate this indication additionally and enable the corresponding current heavenly body to appear or remain hidden.

The date indication also distinguishes itself clearly from the customary. Normally the current date appears on a revolving disk in a small window so that the date is well below the dial, making it more difficult to read. This is not the case with the Pontos Décentrique GMT! In order to bring the date indication up as high as possible on a level with the dial, a connection between the basic movement and the complication module was developed internally at Maurice Lacroix, and a patent is pending for it.

This mechanism enables a large disk to turn directly under the dial for the hours and minutes and on which the date numerals are cut out. When the current date turns over the white-coloured surface underneath, it becomes clearly visible. This innovative construction guarantees not only outstanding legibility, it also integrates a eye-catching element in the dial design. Thus the discreet general style of the anthracite dial is highlighted by a completely new three-dimensional effect. In addition, a gentle line ensures a flowing link between the various indications thus creating an overall harmonious image.

The materials used underline the innovative functions and the modern design language perfectly: High-quality titanium grade 2 was chosen for the 45 mm diameter case and the dial base of the 999 pieces limited edition of the Pontos Décentrique GMT, with the result that it is significantly lighter than comparable stainless steel models. The crown is protected by two lugs, the upper of which serves simultaneously as a button for setting the second time zone. The hands for both time zones, the index marks for the minutes, the moon symbol as well as the surface under the date indication are coated with Superluminova so that they are easily legible at night. The strap is in delicately crafted croco leather or vulcanised rubber and has a titanium clasp.

Last but not least, the movement: The ML 121 calibre has been hand-decorated with elegant Côtes de Genève and fine perlage. A special treatment gives it a noble black surface. Maurice Lacroix can be proud of the complicated and completely internally developed additional functions and the innovative mechanisms of the calibre.

In 2004 the successful Pontos was completely revised. All new models now have attractive additional functions which are accentuated by their generous design. The Pontos Décentrique GMT remains true to this concept. However, at the same time Maurice Lacroix is treading entirely new paths in watchmaking with this exclusive timepiece and is thus creating an ideal platform for further interesting developments.

Dans une édition limitée à 999 exemplaires, la Pontos Décentrique GMT fascine par l'agencement excentré de ses fonctions. Celles-ci ont été développées en interne chez Maurice Lacroix, et un brevet est en cours de dépôt pour le module de liaison entre le mouvement de base et l'affichage du quantième. Le mécanisme innovant est en parfaite harmonie avec les matériaux de haute technologie employés: la boîte ainsi que le cadran sont en titane et, grâce à un traitement de surface inégalé, le mouvement scintille d'un noir exquis.

L'édition limitée de la nouvelle Pontos Décentrique GMT de Maurice Lacroix est le chaînon unique unissant la tradition horlogère suisse, le design moderne et les matériaux haute technologie. Un processus créatif a permis la conception d'une montre qui ne peut être comparée à aucune autre! Une montre qui enthousiasme les hommes actifs, possédant le sens profond d'une esthétique exceptionnelle et parlant le langage des formes architectoniques.

Le design inhabituel fascine au premier regard. Comme son nom le dévoile déjà, toutes les fonctions de la Pontos Décentrique GMT sont excentrées. Les heures, les minutes et les secondes ne sont plus affichées comme il est d'usage à partir du centre du cadran, mais dans un segment annulaire, qui est légèrement décalé vers 10 heures et s'amincit vers 6 heures. De larges index et de plus minces indiquent respectivement les heures et les minutes. L'affichage du jour et de la nuit pour un second fuseau horaire est également étonnant. Il s'étend largement entre le centre de l'écran, 2 heures et 5 heures. Afin de toujours bien savoir si l'heure indiquée est celle du jour ou de la nuit, le soleil et la lune – aux graphismes résolument modernes – tournent sur un disque. Une idée bien spécifique est le jeux des parties polies ou dépolies de la glace saphir au-dessus de cet affichage. Il accentue celui-ci et permet de faire apparaître ou de cacher le corps céleste correspondant.

Le mode d'affichage du quantième s'écarte nettement des usages. Normalement, la date en cours apparaît sur un disque tournant dans un petit guichet. Elle est donc affichée sous le niveau de la surface de l'écran, compliquant ainsi la lecture. Il n'en va pas de même sur la Pontos Décentrique GMT! Pour placer l'affichage du quantième autant que se peut au niveau du cadran, une liaison entre le mouvement de base et le module de complication a été développée en interne chez Maurice Lacroix et le brevet est déjà en cours de dépôt.

Ce mécanisme permet de faire tourner directement un grand disque sous le cadran des heures et des minutes. Les chiffres des dates sont gravés sur ce disque. La date devient visible dès lors qu'elle passe sur la surface de couleur blanche située au-dessous. Cette construction innovante ne garantit pas seulement une parfaite lisibilité, elle permet aussi d'intégrer un élément de design remarquable dans la conception du cadran. L'ensemble de l'écran en couleur anthracite très décente est rehaussé dans un effet tri-dimensionnel entièrement nouveau. Une ligne relie avec fluidité les différents affichages et crée une image harmonieuse.

Les matériaux utilisés soulignent avec perfection les fonctions innovantes et le langage moderne du design. C'est le titane grade 2 qui a été choisi pour la boîte de 45 millimètres de diamètre et pour la base du cadran de l'édition limitée à 999 exemplaires de la Pontos Décentrique GMT; la montre est ainsi nettement moins lourde qu'un modèle similaire en acier inox. La couronne est protégée par deux barrettes, la barrette supérieure servant conjointement de poussoir pour le réglage du second fuseau horaire. Les aiguilles des deux fuseaux horaires, la minuterie, la lune et la surface sous l'indication du quantième sont recouvertes de Superluminova, permettant une très bonne lisibilité nocturne. Le bracelet est soigneusement confectionné en cuir croco ou en caoutchouc vulcanisé et possède un fermoir en titane.

Et le mouvement n'est pas en reste: le calibre ML 121 est finement décoré à la main d'élégantes Côtes de Genève et d'un délicat perlage. Un traitement de surface spécial lui donne une couleur noire d'une exquise brillance. Maurice Lacroix peut être fier à juste titre de ces fonctions supplémentaires compliquées et du mécanisme innovant du calibre, entièrement développées en interne.

La montre à succès Pontos a été entièrement retravaillée en 2004. Tous les modèles possèdent maintenant d'attractives fonctions supplémentaires, soulignées par une généreuse conception. La Pontos Décentrique GMT reste fidèle à ce concept. Mais en présentant ce garde-temps exclusif, Maurice Lacroix ouvre de nouvelles voies dans la conception horlogère, créant ainsi une plate-forme idéale pour d'autres brillants développements.
