The Art of blending materials and watchmaking expertise brought together in a timepiece

The Big Bang Chrono Perpetual Calendar perfectly embodies Hublot’s DNA: it is the tradition embodied in a master piece of the watchmaking art, the famous perpetual calendar with the indication of the moon phases, but reinterpreted by Hublot in an airy vision, allowing the clients to see all the mechanics of this calibre. It integrates our 100% in-house UNICO movement with the chronograph function. This exceptional movement is incorporated in a Magic Gold or a Ceramic case, allowing Hublot to offer this complication from the watchmaking art in two unique materials.

The Swiss watchmaker has fitted this Big Bang with its Unico manufacture movement, which serves as the base for this exceptional calibre and combines three major complications: the chronograph, the perpetual calendar and the moon phase. Hublot has added a module, featuring date, day, month, leap year and moon phase functions, to its Unico movement. The skeleton movement with its ruthenium anthracite plating and elements in satin-finish steel and micro-blasted bars and plates lets the visible mechanics be appreciated on the dial side thanks to its sapphire dial, and also on the back where one can appreciate the sapphire glass that allows the heart of the watch, its balance, to show through.

The perpetual calendar functions are displayed by hands. The days are at 6 o’clock, the months and leap years at 9 o’clock and the date at 12 o’clock. The moon cycle is reproduced in a round aperture with a diameter of 8.50 mm placed at 3 o’clock which shows two moons alternatively beneath partially smoked sapphire. As for the mechanical chronograph, its second hand is in the centre, its hour counter at 6 o’clock and its 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock.

With a 45-mm diameter, the Big Bang Unico Chrono Perpetual Calendar is now available in Magic Gold with a black ceramic bezel (limited edition of 100 pieces) and in Black Magic made of polished and micro-blasted black ceramic which gives it this matt effect. Playing the game of interchangeability and adaptability, the Big Bang Unico Chrono Perpetual Calendar also has a unique “One Click” strap system, which enables the strap to be changed extremely easily and quickly while guaranteeing optimal security.

The Magic Gold system features the famous scratch-resistant gold patented by Hublot and developed with the support of the EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne). As a reminder, this is a fusion of 24-carat gold (the noble material par excellence, a natural product) with the latest high-tech materials expertise. Magic Gold is the toughest gold in the world, by far: Hublot’s gold can only be successfully machined by diamonds. Its hardness approaches 1,000 Vickers, which eliminates the traditional weak point of gold and its alloys, which scratch too easily. It is worth noting that “standard” well-designed 18-carat gold reaches only 400 Vickers and the majority of hardened steels around 600 Vickers.
