Description

In 2019, Grand Seiko created a sports watch inspired by the lion, an enduring symbol of the brand since 1960. The bold and angular design brought a distinctive edge to Grand Seiko’s lineup of sports watches. The new Tokyo Lion Tentagraph, introduced at Watches & Wonders 2025, ushers the Tokyo Lion sports watch into a new era with a powerful yet refined design and high performance courtesy of Grand Seiko’s 10-beat mechanical chronograph, the Tentagraph.

Crafted from Grand Seiko’s Brilliant Hard Titanium, an alloy brighter than traditional titanium yet twice as hard as stainless steel, the sharply faceted case evokes a lion’s claws through a seamless blend of hairline and Zaratsu-polished surfaces. The process of creating such a technically complex case demanded the utmost precision and skill from Grand Seiko’s master craftsmen and women.

The watch’s boldly patterned dial takes inspiration from the mane of the lion as it waves in the wind. Inlaid at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions, three-dimensional sub-dials enhance legibility by reducing the distance between the sub-dial markings and hands. Updated pushers improve ease of use while achieving a satisfying feeling while engaging the chronograph function.

The watch’s newly developed rubber strap has a tensile strength of nearly 2.7 times the typical silicone strap used for Grand Seiko. The back of the strap features a design echoing the lion’s paw, providing a playful design detail even if it is only visible to the wearer. Combined with the slightly curved case back, the new strap ensures comfort and stability on the wrist befitting a Grand Seiko sports watch.

Inside, the Tentagraph movement beats 10 times per second, ensuring a high level of accuracy while achieving 72 hours of power reserve even when the chronograph function is in operation, making it the 10-beat chronograph with the longest power reserve in the industry today.
