Power reserve: 65 h, 36000 vph
Since its creation in 1969, the TAG Heuer Monaco has been a symbol of avant-garde design. With its signature square shape and innovative technical features, it shattered conventions in the watchmaking world. The TAG Heuer Monaco also holds a special place in pop culture, famously worn by Steve McQueen in the 1971 film Le Mans.TAG Heuer’s involvement with Formula 1® is as historic as the sport itself. The partnership began in 1969 with the brand’s pioneering decision to adorn a Formula 1® car with its logo. By 1971, TAG Heuer had moved from branding to actively supporting racing teams. Now, as Formula 1® celebrates its 75th anniversary, TAG Heuer marks its return as Official Timekeeper and also becomes the title partner of the Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco, further strengthening its ties to one of motorsport’s most iconic races.
To commemorate this historic partnership, TAG Heuer unveiled a new iteration of its most intricate timepiece : the Monaco Split-Seconds Chronograph I F1®, in an exclusive, limited edition of just 10 pieces.
Inspired by the signature colors of Formula 1®, the sleek white ceramic case, crown, and pushers mirror the aerodynamic lines of a high-performance racing car. Every detail evokes the craftsmanship and technical perfection synonymous with Formula 1® engineering. A vibrant, red-tinted translucent dial captures the sheer adrenaline of race day. The chronograph counters are inspired by racetrack design, featuring an asphalt-like finish, white and yellow starting grid positions and the official F1 typography. The counters also feature the phrase made famous by British commentator David Croft: “LIGHTS OUT & AWAY WE GO".
The calibre TH81-00, with its rattrapante function, is a testament to TAG Heuer’s watchmaking legacy and mastery. This meticulously hand-finished movement, crafted from lightweight grade-5 titanium, comprises more than 360 components yet weighs only 30 grams. Made of cutting-edge materials such as white ceramic and sapphire crystal, the case offers optimized ergonomics and comfort without compromising durability. The signature checkered-flag finish on the bridges, a nod to our racing heritage, requires over 30 hours of meticulous work by a single artisan, making each movement an embodiment of exceptional Swiss craftsmanship and Avant-Garde Horlogerie.
